The funding needed to carry out R&D&I activities can be of a very diverse nature: public subsidies, private contracts with companies and other entities, technology licensing, patronage and sponsorship, etc. Currently, in Spain, the most relevant for universities in terms of economic volume, number of projects and relevance of their results, are public subsidies.

At the Universitat de València, the Office of the Vice-Principal for Innovation and Transfer and, depending functionally on it, the Transfer and Innovation Service, develops functions of dissemination, advice, management and justification of the different calls for public funding through its section of Subsidised R&D&I, in the case of national grants, and through the section of International R&D&I, in the case of European and international grants.
