Valentín Villaverde Bonilla is Full University Professor of Prehistory at the Universitat de València. His research activity is focused in different ambits of the ancient Prehistory: the middle Palaeolithic, the upper Palaeolithic and prehistoric Art. Director of excavations at archaeological sites.
Joâo Zilhao és catedràtic de la Universitat de Barcelona des de 2011, anteriorment va ser professor d’Arqueologia paleolítica a la Universitat de Bristol 2005-2010, i a la Universitat de Lisboa.
In the last decades, the apparition of modern behaviour, its definition and implications in evolutionary and cultural terms have aroused an intense discussion. There are essentially two theoretical positions in this regard, the one that defends symbolism is related to a fundamental cognitive change in the human evolutionary process and consider its apparition recent and only associated to the apparition of the anatomically modern Humans; and the one that sustains that the process is not only related to these last ones, but it arouses in different geographical areas and is registered both in modern Humans and Neanderthals.
