Titaguas

This Thursday 30 March the Chair for Citizen Participation and Valencian Landscapes will start in Titaguas the training series ‘El paisaje vivido: paisajes emblemáticos y disonancias paisajísticas’. This programme continues with the conferences-workshop that have been started last year. It will be celebrated until the last months of 2017 in Titaguas, Cocentaina, Villena, Montanejos, Morella, Xàbia, Torrevieja and Riba-roja de Túria.

The conference is expected to start at 17:00. It will be inaugurated by the secretary of the Valencian Department of Housing, Public Works and Structuring of the Territory, Josep Vicent Boira; the mayor of Titaguas, Ramiro Rivera; the vice-principal for Territorial Projection and Participation, Jorge Hermosilla; and the codiector of the Chair for Citizen Participation and Valencian Landscapes, Emilio Iranzo.

After the inauguration, the professor of the Department of Geography of the Universitat de València, Neus La Roca Cervigón, will give a conference entitled ‘Los paisajes vegetales del territorio valenciano’ (The vegetal landscapes in the Valencian territory). Then, Vicente Collado, technician of the Valencian Department of Housing, Public Works and Structuring of the Territory will give a speech on the landscape politics in the Valencian Department since 2004 to the present day. This theoretical conferences will give way to the participative workshops in which the participants could think and debate together with the experts from the Universitat de València. The purpose is to improve the understanding of the citizen conception as well as identify and evaluate the regional landscapes.

‘The landscape represents an integrating entity which is able to contextualize the natural and cultural heritage, to benefit the economic activity and to create the population’s living environment while reinforcing an own identity’, explains Emilio Iranzo, codirector of the Chair for Citizen Participation and Valencian Landscapes, and Alejandro Pérez, full university professor of the Department of Geography in the UV. ‘In this regard, what we pretend to achieve with this conference is to promote the value of the landscape in a participative way and at the same time, to share the collective knowledge. The final objective is to improve our understanding about the citizen’s conception of the landscape’, affirms the professor Iranzo.

This conference is just one of the activities planned by the UV and the Department of Housing in the framework of the Chair for Citizen Participation and Valencian Landscapes, an academic platform whose aim is to consider and research about topics related to the population’s conception and valuation about the Valencian landscapes. Another purpose is the knowledge disclosure and transfer when it comes to landscape and the citizen participation.

The next conferences organized by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Territorial Projection and Participation of the UV together with the Chair for Citizen Participation and Valencian Landscapes will take place in the rest of the three provinces of the Valencian Community: Cocentaina (April 27th), Villena (May 25th), Montanejos (June 1st), Morella (July 6th), Xàbia (September 15th), Torrevieja (September 29th) and Riba-roja de Túria (October 20th).
