A Universitat de València report confirms the strong economic, social and territorial impact of the festival across the city and the surrounding area.
Fernando Álvarez contributes to a study estimating the impact of the Falles of Gandia at over €40 million and 377 jobs
The Falles of Gandia generate a total economic impact of €40.38 million on business turnover, contribute €14.85 million to GDP and support 377 full-time equivalent jobs, according to the Economic and Social Impact Study of the Falles of Gandia, produced by the Joan Noguera Chair in Territorial Thinking at the Universitat de València in collaboration with the Local Falles Board of Gandia.
Based on an Input-Output scientific analysis methodology and surveys of fallas participants, commissions, residents and visitors, the report confirms that the Falles are not only a cultural and heritage expression, but also one of the city’s main economic drivers, with effects extending throughout the year.
The study also highlights the high return on municipal public investment: for every €100,000 spent by the Gandia City Council, the festival generates €5.8 million in business turnover, €2.1 million in GDP and 54 full-time equivalent jobs, underscoring the ability of cultural policies to stimulate the local economy and employment.
The report, which you can find here: https://www.uv.es/ullal/fallesgandia.pdf was led by Adrián Ferrandis Martínez and coordinated by José Vicente Sánchez Cabrera, with the participation of a multidisciplinary Universitat de València team specialised in economics, geography and tourism, in which the work of Econcult UV economist Fernando Álvarez is highlighted.
Fernando Álvarez is a member of the project "Strategies based on culture and creativity for the modification of the Valencian model towards innovation," funded by the Regional Ministry of Finance and Economic Model of the Generalitat Valenciana.
