The Demetrio Ribes Chair and the Ministry of Environment, Water, Infrastructures and Territory present the exhibition 'De temor i seda. Les talaies de la costa' (Of fear and silk. The watchtowers of the coastline'). It is an exhibition that has a multidisciplinary character which sheds light on the first coordinated defensive system in the Reino de València (Valencian Kingdom). From the mid-16th century, it was erected by the Valencian authorities and funded thanks to the silk tax whose objective was surveillance and coast defence against pirates and the feared attack of the Turkish float. Its elements are today part of the cultural landscape composed of monuments, most of them catalogued individually as culturally interesting goods.
The visitors will have the opportunity of learn about its history from a poliedric perspective. The expositive route starts in Santa Pola, at the Museo del Mar, from the 23 February to 31 March. The exhibition could be found later on other Valencian municipalities. La Vila Joiosa, Dénia, València and Benicarló are only some of them.
