Tea rooms. Mujeres obreras (Luisa Carnés)

The Alumni Book Club will start the new year on 14th January with the Luisa Carnés novel Tea rooms. Mujeres obreras (Tea rooms. Working women), a strong social novel that broke the narrative structure from that time. The club will reunite at 6 p.m. at the library of the Palacio de la Exposición. Keep in mind that you must contact the Alumni Office if you do not belong to the Lecture Club.

It is the 1930s in Madrid and the working women in a distinguished tea room near Puerta del Sol adjust their uniforms to start a new day of work. Antonia is the oldest, although no one has ever acknowledged her expertise. Little Marta's misery has made her determined and daring. Paca, in her thirties and devout, spends her leisure hours in a convent and Laurita, the master's goddaughter, considers herself a "modern girl". But only Matilde has that "rebellious spirit" that considers a different existence.

Luisa Carnés, invisible authoress of the Generation of’27, wrote this outstanding social novel that broke the narrative structure from that time.
