A variety of genres, styles and performers marks the chamber programme for Universitat de València this Autumn

Universitat de València starts the Autumn season with an intense and diverse musical programme, organised and designed by Aula de Música UV, including over 15 concerts from 7 October to 19 December in different university spaces: emblematic auditories such as Capella de la Sapiència at the historic building, the Wall Room of the Rector Pesset Hall of Residence, the UV Botanical Garden or the Charles Darwin Room at the Brujassot Camput.

All concert have free access with an invitation available to request here 72 hours before the concert. The UV Botanical Garden Joan Plaça Auditorium concert and the Burjassot Campus Charles Darwin Room concert won't use invitations (limitted seats).

The programme 'welcomes a variety of groups (singing, wind, string...) and university groups, as well as musicians with their own chamber groups who grew at UV' states the Aula principal Guillem Escorihuela.

The 2025 Autumn Concerts focus once again in supporting the composition and performance of 'the land', but 'not ignoring national and international areas'. For one more year, the programme has the collaboration with Cultura als Campus and UV Unit of Equality with special emphasis this year fue to the 'large variety' of genres and styles of both ancient and historical music to nowadays composers.

October concerts
The autumn musical programme will take off with the conference-concert with pianist Mario Masó on Tuesday 7 (7:00 p.m.) at the Rector Peset Hall of Residence. He will reflect on the tributed composer Leopold Querol Roso. Next, Óscar Campos will hold a piano concert of the author and his coetaneous. It will be the first monthly activity for 'Paraules al Concert' ('Words at the Concert'), the dissemination and pedagogical side of the Aula. As Escorihuela states, 'music should not only be heard but also explained'.

The 'Música a la Capella' ('Music at the Chapel') cycle will be on Wednesdays at UV Cultural Centre La Nau starting on 15 (7:00 p.m.) with the sister duet of Laura and Elena Palomar who will perform the 'Échofidèle' concert with historical instrumentes. A reunion with ancient music in which the performers will use barroque instruments replicas —transverse flute and oboe— in order to teach about music history.

The saxophoe quartet Rhombus Ensemble will perform the 'Sinergia' concert on Friday 17 (7:00 p.m.) at the UV Botanical Garden Joan Plaça Auditorium, including pieces from DebussyBozza, or Escaich. The saxophone is a rare choice for chamber music, according to Guillem Escorihuela, and Aula de Música wants to dedicate a special space for it and other wind instruments.

As a preview of the opening concert for the start of the academic year in collaboration with Culture at Campuses on Monday 20 (8:00 p.m.), the Burjassot Campus Charles Darwin Room will serve as a stage for a preview of the Universitat de València Philarmonic Orchestra programme it will perform on 21 at València Palau de la Música. Conducting Hilari Garcia Gázquez, one of the higlights is the participation of violloncello soloist Pau Cutanda Orchestra performing two reference romantics: Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky.

Lluís Vich Vocalis male choir will visit the Capella de la Sapiència on Wednesday 22 (7:00 p.m.) to perform a programme of ancient and barroque music. On Friday 24 (7:30 p.m.), Charles Darwin Room will once again serve as stage for another university group: the University Choir of València with invited conductor Mireia Barrera.

Barrera will conduct a concert named 'Les dones fortes' ('Strong Women') dedicated to women of the Valencial culture such as writer Maria Beneyto —with lyrics from her texts— or composer Matilde Salvador amor other. This concert will be a collaboration with Cultura als Campus and UV Unit of Equality.

In November, music of five centuries
Autumn concerts will start in November at the UV Botanical Garden on Sunday 2 (12:00 p.m.) with a string quartet made of members of UV Philarmonic Orchestra (two violins, one viola and one violoncello) performing a diverse repertoire.

The programme will continue on Tuesday 4 at Rector Peset Hall of Residence (7:00 p.m.) with Málaga duet José Andrés Fernández (clarinet) and Margarita Kozlovska (piano) performing the concert 'Un passeig per la Gran Poma' ('A Walk through the Big Apple') and contemporary American music with composers such as GerswinTempleton or Bernstein.

Música a la Capella will keep their Wednesday performances at Universitat de València historical building Capella de la Sapiència at 7:00 p.m.

 

The 'romantic lied' with romantic music of the 18th century 'of the classical bourgeois ballrooms' will be performed on Wednesday 5. Mezzosoprano Lorena Valero along with clarinet Pedro Vicente and piano Carlos Apellániz will play SchubertBrahms or Danzi.

Composer Elana Sasson will play her own pieces with voice and the saz on Wednesday in the concert 'In between', combining jazz and latin rythm with Persian poetry roots and Kurdish melodies, accompanied by doublebass Manos Stratis and piano Santiago Bertel. The concert, on Wednesday 12, is organised in collaboration with UV Unit of Equality.

 

On Wednesday 19, the conference-concert 'Un piano a Polònia' ('A Piano in Poland') will delve into piano music of Polish composers like ChopinSzymanowska, or Bacewicz, played by Violeta Casero and James Lipka; and on Wednesday 26, the Victoria Musicae choir will perform the concert 'Motets per al temps d’advent i Nadal de diversos mestres dels segles XVI i XVII' ('Motets for Advent and Christmas from diverse maestros of the 16th and 17th centuries'), conducted by Josep Gil-Tàrrega.

Eclectic December with Spanish, Mexican and Christmas music
Singing and guitar to start December. On Tuesday 2 (7:00 p.m.), the Botanical Garden will serve as stage for the 'Anhels de l'ànima' ('Yearning of the Soul') with a programm of Spanish and South-American music (Manuel de FallaHalffterGinastera...) performed by soprano Belén Roig and guitarrist Miquel Pérez.

On Wednesday 3 (7:00 p.m.), barroque Mexican group Il Furore will perform at La Nau amidst their Spain Tour. According to Guillem Escorihuela, 'they will bring a powerful programme with instruments of the times along with the international touch to the concert'.

Wednesday 10 (7:00 p.m.) will be the last day of Música a la Capella with a conference-concert 'Dansa de llums i sombres' ('Dance of Lights and Shadows'), with violin Luciano Casalino and piano Francest Llop, a Valencian group of professional musicians that will dedicat the afternoon to celebrating the Any Ravel in its 150th anniversary.

The last touch on Wednesday 10 (7:00 p.m.) will be the traditional Christmas concert of Universitat de València Philarmonic Orchestra conducted by Hilari Garcia at Burjassot Campus Charles Darwin Room.

All 16 programmes exist within different academic lines like Valencian music —including musicians and composers of the land— and diversity in styles, eras and performers.
