Having an official certificate of Valencian proficiency is growing in importance, especially if you aim to get a government job, to improve your CV or to access to some university studies.
The Law 1/2024 came into force the 27 June, which regulates freedom of education. In the context of this law, the Government of the Valencian Community has made easier the process to obtain Valencian language certificates, allowing those who studied in the Valencian education system to get their certificate without doing an exam.
Thanks to the new regulations, it is possible to get the Valencian language certificate of A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) without having to do an exam, as long as you have passed some subjects in specific education stages.
Level and access to the certificate
In some cases, it is also possible to get an A2 or B1 certificate if you can justify having previously studied Valencian. If you have completed modules of Valencian in adult basic training, you will be given an A1 certificate.
The same way, passing the subject of Valencian in the six school years of Primary School, from the school year 2009-2010, gives access to getting an A2 certificate. Regarding Secondary School, having passed the subject in the four school years of Secondary School, from the school year 2008-2009, gives access to get a B1 certificate, as well as having passed Valencian in the 1st year of Bachiller and three school years of Secondary School.
In the case of previous education systems, (EGB, BUP and FP), having passed all the grades in Primary School and Secondary School or three school years between BUP and COU or its current equivalent (3rd and 4th grade of Secondary School and 1st and 2nd grade of Bachiller) gives access to a B1 certificate. In vocational training, the requirement is to have passed Valencian in the first module and in two subjects of the second one.
Regarding B2 certificates, you can get access to it having studied the subject of Valencian in the 1st and 2nd grade of Bachiller from the school year 2009-2010. Finally, to get a C1 certificate, you should have an average grade of 7 or more in the subject of Valencian in the two grades of Bachiller or having obtained a score of 7 or more in the Valencian exam of the exams to access university PAU/EBAU.
The Law 1/2024 has a retroactive character and that is why, as we mentioned before, it applies to those who have finished Primary School from the school year 2009-2010, vocational training and Secondary School from 2008-2009, Bachiller from the 2009-2010 school year and in the case of passing the PAU/EBAU exam, those who did it from the school year 2009-2010 (except for the cases of people older than 25 and 45 years old).
