Degree in English Studies

  • E01: The ability to use tools, programs and software designed specifically for the study of the English language and its literatures.
  • E02: The ability to identify problems and research issues and evaluate their relevance in the area of English studies.
  • E03: The ability to compare and contrast different aspects of studies in language and literature and relate these studies with other areas and disciplines.
  • E04: Acquisition of the basic communicative competences in a second language (other than English) and the ability to describe it grammatically.
  • E05: Acquisition of the basic knowledge of a non-Anglophone literature and culture.
  • E06: The acquisition of communicative and social competence in the English language (listening and reading comprehension and written and oral expression, communicative interaction and mediation, including grammatical and stylistic correction) approaching the C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  • E07: The ability to identify movements, periods, genres, authors and works in various English-language literatures and to recognize their aesthetic conventions, modes of production and reception and their place within the traditions of western and world literatures.
  • E08: An awareness of the theoretical and practical aspects of the following disciplines in English: phonology, lexicology, morphology, syntax, textual and discursive analysis.
  • E09: Familiarity with the various theoretical trends and methodologies in linguistics and how they can be applied.
  • E10: Familiarity with the various approaches and methods in literary theory and criticism and how they can be applied.
  • E11: An awareness of the techniques and methods involved in linguistic analysis and the ability to apply them in oral and written discourse in English.
  • E12: Knowledge of the various techniques and methods of analysis of literary texts in English and the ability to apply them to a variety of texts.
  • E13: The development of the critical ability to characterize, explain, interpret and assess literary texts in English and to relate them to their respective literary and historical contexts, and to apply this ability within a comparative perspective.
  • E14: Be familiar with a literature in a language other than the main Degree language.
  • E15: Demonstrate communicative and social competence in the English language (oral and written comprehension and expression, communicative interaction and mediation that includes correct grammar and style).
  • E16: Develop a critical ability to explain literary texts in English and to identify aesthetic conventions, movements, periods, genres, authors and works in English language and their modes of production.
  • E17: Translate at a basic level from language B to language A.
  • E18: Relate geographical and historical aspects and the most relevant institutions in the Anglophone world to contemporary society and culture.

  • E21: Describe the mechanisms of the acquisition of a second language and apply strategies and resources in the teaching and learning English language and literature including English for specific purposes.
  • E22: Identify geographical, social, discoursive and genre and sex varieties of the English language including both literary and non-literary registers.
  • E23: Know the grammar and develop communicative competences in Spanish.
  • E24: Know the grammar and develop communicative competences in Catalan.
  • E25: Know the grammar and develop communicative competences in (a) foreign language(s).
  • E26: Get to know the fundamentals of the Latin language and classical culture through its texts.
  • E27: Know and apply the currents and methodologies of linguistics.
  • E28: Know and apply the currents and methodologies of literary theory and criticism.
