The CITur Research Group emerged in 2005 with the purpose of initiating a line of research focused on the analysis of the different interactions between cinema, tourism and the social imaginary, paying specific attention to the case of Span. Due to its members' diverse origins and training, the group approaches its research on the subject of study from an interdisciplinary perspective, applying a plural and integrative methodology towards concepts, methods and techniques from film theory, textual analysis, the history of cinema, the theory and sociology of tourism and cultural studies. Throughout its development, the group has developed different research projects, the first of which (Ref. GV114/05) focused its activity on the analysis of the image of Spain shaped by Spanish cinema over its history and the way in which the said image strengthened or subverted the cultural stereotypes traditionally associated with being Spanish. The group subsequently undertook a second project (Ref. HAR2011-27750), funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and focused on the key cultural, political and economic aspects brought into play by Spanish fiction cinema wich has addressed the theme of tourism. In this research line, it is currently working on a new project funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Ref. HAR2016-77734-P) whose analysis focuses on the way in which the natural and urban spaces shown by Spanish fiction cinema function as factors in the promotion of tourism in the country. To facilitate the transfer of research results, the group has organised three International Research Days on the subject, in which researchers from different Spanish and foreign universities have participated and, at the same time, generated a flow of publications of articles in journals and chapters of collective books focused on the topic of research over the years. Likewise, throughout its development, the group has established collaboration networks with researchers from other Spanish universities and also has members from foreign universities, such as the Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée (France) and Marquette University and Dartmouth College (USA). In addition, for the development of our latest project, we have initiated collaboration with the TRAMA (Audiovisual Communication) and TURESCO (Social Economy of Tourism) groups of the University of Lleida, which are currently developing a project with similar thematic lines to those of our group.
