Description of research activity:

The Data Interaction and Augmentation research group (DINA) of the University of Valencia researches the interface between data and humans, focusing on their analysis, augmentation (advanced graphics), and access through various interaction paradigms (augmented reality, virtual reality, etc.). The data can be of a very diverse nature, representing very different concepts, with different scaling, dimensions, meanings and even uncertainties. The correct visualisation of these helps human beings to understand their nature, meaning and scope. The various ways of accessing visual representations of data, including interaction paradigms such as virtual reality and augmented reality, add a fundamental element to their mere graphical representation, also allowing collaborative environments for their manipulation, analysis and study.

Scientific-technical goals:
  • Investigacion en la visualizacion de datos, atendiendo tanto a la naturaleza de los datos como a las variables viduales y al factor humano
  • Investigacion en el analisis espacial y visualizacion de datos georreferenciados
  • Investigacion en el diseño de mapas tematicos enriquecidos con graficas.
  • Investigacion en paradigmas de interaccion (RV y RA) para enriquecer la visualizacion de los datos, proponiendo nuevas formas de acceder a ellos.
 
Research lines:
  • Data visualization.To explore the relationship that exists, at the level of perception, between types of data (continuous, discrete, categorical, etc.) and aesthetic variables (shape, size, color, etc.). Design and implementation of new proposals for charts, graphs and maps for the visual representation of data.
  • Virtual Reality.Design and implementation of immersive environments, using virtual reality technology. Exploration of devices and hardware for interaction with the virtual environment. Graphic design and implementation of algorithms to visualise data (e.g. scientific data) in the virtual environment, as well as methodologies to interact with them.
  • Ontologies.Design and implementation of graphs for information mapping. Data pre-processing for homogenisation. Term processing according to thesauri. Establishment of semantic relationships between data. Database management Graph visualisation
  • Interaction.Design and implementation of graphical interfaces, integrating the visualisation of data through graphs and maps. Usability studies to improve interfaces, meeting the needs of different target audiences.
