Description of research activity:
The Language, cognition, perception, body, and environment (LECOPECUE) research group is characterised by the study of language, languages, and the various forms of communication in their relationship with cognition, perception, body, and the environment. This approach makes it possible to achieve a more complete, richer vision of language, more in keeping with the variety of factors that are relevant for linguistic realisations and for the very conception of the linguistic facts. From this awareness of cognition, perception, body and the environment, the different areas of the study of language and languages are investigated. The group's interests include grammatical, semantic, pragmatic, and phonic research, as is usual in approaches to language and languages. In addition, the fields of non-verbal language and communication and the various modalities of communication, including visual and auditory ones, are considered. Studies on languages and their contrasts extend to languages of all kinds, including non-Indo-European languages and sign languages. In addition, the group works on both theoretical linguistics and its applications. Within the theoretical field, linguistic studies related to cognition and perception, as well as the most recent theory of Enaction, are of special importance. This modern approach studies linguistic production by focusing on the reciprocal relationship between organism and environment. In line with the above, the different lines of research agree on the need to approach the study of language by paying attention to these crucial factors for its deep understanding and analysis. Some of the most relevant lines of the group are: Cognitive linguistics, perceptual linguistics and Enaction theory; cultural biology and language; language, society and culture; contrastive Linguistics and typology of languages; language, thought and artificial intelligence; linguistic landscape; phraseology; Linguistics and teaching, etc.
