Description of research activity:

The research group's general objective is to generate rigorous and relevant knowledge that helps improve decision-making in the field of banking economics, both for professionals and regulators. Currently, its specific objectives include: (i) analysing the connection between banking and the real economy, with particular emphasis on the so-called new economy based on intangible assets, which are essential for the digitalisation process; i (ii) studying the challenges currently facing the banking sector, such as the emergence of new competitors, industry consolidation, and risks arising from cybersecurity and climate change, among others.

Research lines:
  • Connection between the banking economy and the real economy.Assessment of the influence of financial conditions (such as restrictions on access to credit and the market power of banks, among others) on investment in intangible assets.
  • New challenges for the banking sector.Analysis of the effect of banking supervision on different aspects of the activity of financial institutions. Calculation of potential economies of scale in the banking business. Analysis of the relationship between shadow banking and traditional banking.
