Degree in Audiovisual Communication
- Students should have an understanding of own and other social, historical, economic and cultural aspects within their relevant contexts.
- Students should be able to experiment and innovate through the understanding and use of the applied methods and technologies.
- Students should be able to defend a culture of peace and respect for the fundamental human rights within the processes of communication, specifically in regards to equality between women and men in all types of communication (informative, interpretative, semiotic, dialogic and opinion).
- Students should have an understanding of the different languages, codes and modes of representation used in the different technological and audiovisual mediums such as photography, cinema, radio, television, electronic image and video, internet etc., through their own individual industries and aesthetics, as well as through the evolution of their social and cultural relevance through time. This should generate the ability to analyse stories and audiovisual works, considering the iconic messages of the texts as products of the social, political and cultural conditions in which they were produced.
- Students should be able to understand and apply the techniques and processes of audiovisual production and transmission in the different phases, from the conception of a project until its commercialisation. This knowledge will lead to the development of the ability to plan and manage human resources, budget and technological resources, including all the processes involved in the management of audiovisual companies in their various fields.
- Students should have a practical and theoretical understanding of the organisation structures within sound and visual communication, as well as its evolution and development over time, including audiovisual taxation. This also includes knowledge of, and research into, the interrelations between the natures of the subjects within audiovisual communication: authors, institutions, companies, the media, storage and recipients.
- Students should be able to understand and apply the techniques and processes of audiovisual creation and transmission in their different phases, in not only cinema but also television, video and other multimedia forms from the point of view of the staging, from the initial idea until the final product. This leads to the ability to create and direct the staging of cinematographic, video-graphic or televised audiovisual productions, taking responsibility for the direction of actors and adjusting to the script, work plan or existing budget.
- Conocimiento de la ética y deontología profesional así como del ordenamiento jurídico de la información, que afecta tanto a la práctica profesional como al quehacer del comunicador. Capacidad de interpretar los mecanismos legislativos de incidencia en el audiovisual o la comunicación, así como el régimen jurídico de aplicación en los distintos aspectos de las producciones
audiovisuales.
- Students should be able to understand and apply the different mechanisms and elements of script making according to different formats, technologies and means of production. This also includes the theoretical and practical understanding of analysis, organisation and encryption of the iconic content and the audiovisual information within different technologies and foundations. Students should be capable of writing texts, programmes and scripts with fluency in the fields of cinematographic, video-graphic, radiophonic, televised, or multimedia fiction.
- Students should understand and be able to apply resources, elements, methods and procedures to build and analyse both linear and non-linear audiovisual narratives. This includes design, the establishment and development of strategies, and the application of the policies of persuasive communication within the audiovisual markets.
- Conocimiento teórico-práctico de las tecnologías aplicadas a los medios de comunicación audiovisuales (fotografía, radio, sonido, televisión, vídeo, cine, y soportes multimedia), incluyendo la capacidad para utilizarlos en la construcción y manipulación de los diversos productos que abarca el ámbito de la comunicación audiovisual.
- Conocimiento de la imagen espacial y de las representaciones icónicas en el espacio, tanto en la imagen fija como en la imagen en movimiento, así como los elementos constitutivos de la dirección artística. Capacidad para analizar y planificar las relaciones entre imágenes y sonidos desde el punto de vista estético y narrativo en los diferentes soportes y tecnologías audiovisuales. Capacidad para aplicar técnicas y procedimientos de la composición de la imagen a los diferentes soportes audiovisuales, a partir del conocimiento de las leyes clásicas y de los movimientos estéticos y culturales de la historia de la
imagen mediante las nuevas tecnologías de la comunicación. También se incluyen los conocimientos de los modelos psicológicos específicamente desarrollados para la comunicación visual y la persuasión a través de la imagen.
- Students should have both a theoretical and practical understanding of the scientific fundamentals of optics and the ability to process measurements in relation to the amount of light and chromatic quality during the construction of images, both in the professional field of photography and in the direction of photography for film and other video-graphic productions.
- Conocimiento de la planificación sonora y de las representaciones acústicas del espacio, así como los elementos constitutivos de diseño y la decoración sonora ("sound designer"). Estos conocimientos también abarcarán la relación entre los
sonidos y las imágenes desde el punto de vista estético y narrativo en los diferentes soportes y tecnologías audiovisuales. También se incluyen los modelos psicológicos específicamente desarrollados para la comunicación sonora y la persuasión a través del sonido.
- Conocimiento teórico y práctico de los fundamentos científicos de la acústica, y capacidad para desarrollar mediciones vinculadas con las cantidades y calidades del sonido durante el proceso de construcción del audio, grabar señales sonoras desde cualquier fuente acústica o electrónica y de mezclar estos materiales con una intencionalidad determinada teniendo en cuenta los
niveles, efectos y planos de la mezcla final masterizada; capacidad para recrear el ambiente sonoro de una producción audiovisual o multimedia atendiendo a la intención del texto y de la narración mediante la utilización de banda sonora, efectos sonoros y soundtrack.
- Capacidad para realizar la ordenación técnica de los materiales sonoros y visuales conforme a una idea utilizando las técnicas narrativas y las tecnologías necesarias para la elaboración, composición, acabado y masterización de diferentes productos audiovisuales y multimedia y para diseñar y concebir la presentación estética y técnica de la puesta en escena a través de las fuentes
lumínicas y acústicas naturales o artificiales, atendiendo a las características creativas y expresivas que propone el director del proyecto audiovisual.
- Students must be capable of applying techniques and processes of creation and technical or human resources necessary for the design of the production of an audiovisual work from its stage elements and brand image until its graphic commercialisation project.
- Students must be able to search, select and organise any type of audiovisual document in a database, as well as their use in different audiovisual formats using digital methods.
- Students must be able to carry out an analysis of the structures, contents and styles of television and radio programming, as well as the different variables that influence their configuration and both the communicative and performance processes than they generate.
- Students must be able to apply production techniques and processes to the organisation of cultural events by planning the human and technical resources needed and adjusting to an existing budget.
- Students must be able to apply the principles and functions of visual identity to the creation of a manual of norms for the visual corporate identity of a given company.
- Students must be able to define research topics or innovative personal creation that could contribute to the knowledge or development of audiovisual languages and their interpretation. They must be able to adequately expose the results of their research either orally or through audiovisual and computerised means, according to the standards of the disciplines of communication.
- In terms of creativity, students must be able to take expressive and thematic risks within the framework of availability and in terms of audiovisual communication. They must be able to apply personal solutions and points of view in the development of projects.
- Students must have acquired knowledge and understanding in a specific field of study, on the basis of general secondary education and at a level that includes mainly knowledge drawn from advanced textbooks, but also some cutting-edge knowledge in their field of study.
- Students must be able to apply their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional manner and have acquired the competences required for the preparation and defence of arguments and for problem solving in their field of study.
- Students must have the ability to gather and interpret relevant data (usually in their field of study) to make judgements that take relevant social, scientific or ethical issues into consideration.
- Students must be able to communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both expert and lay audiences.
- Students must have developed the learning skills needed to undertake further study with a high degree of autonomy.
- Students should be able to work as a team, communicate their own ideas and integrate themselves into group projects aimed at achieving results.

- Familiarity of the state of the world, as well as its recent historical evolution, paying special attention to the major trends of contemporary thinking and their implication in the different political, financial and cultural parameters.
- The ability to interpret relevant data such as the major events and processes of todays societies from a synchronic viewpoint. This knowledge must cover as broad an area as possible so that it will contribute to develop the capacity to understand diversity and promote respect for the values of others and civic sensibility.
- Students should be able to express themselves fluently and effectively in their own languages, as well as in a third language (preferably English), taking advantage of the linguistic and literary resources that are most appropriate for the different forms of media.
- Students must be able to work well in a team, able to assume both subordinate roles and, where appropriate, the role of coordinator or director. They must be able to put into practice all the skills that they have acquired. They must know how to value their own proposals, but also to adapt to the demands of a group or a business.
- Students must be able to develop their own work, both in terms of creation and research, whilst putting into practice the skills that they have acquired. They must know how to take responsibility for their own projects (although this would be under the guidance of a tutor).
- Students must be able to deepen their acquired knowledge and to develop and apply these skills in the various fields of audiovisual communication.
