
How the environment and the place of residence affects the artistic creation, or how migration affects in the creative process of the artist are some of the questions that presents the exhibition “Room Art, 2015. Visual migrations”, opened at the Cultural Centre La Nau, until next March 22.
The exhibition is held at the Academia Exhibition Room, the widest exposure space of the historical building, this exhibition shows the experience of migration as a transformation process and a change under the wing of creative awareness of the artist. Photography, painting, sculpture, video creations, instalments, drawing...A beautiful, experimental and very involved look, through the work of twelve young artists that reflect on how this phenomenon has also consequences in art.
“We don’t speak about migration, but how migration is that elaborated human condition of discourse that is announced through images. The aesthetic project is leaded in interculturality, has its basis in the identity of individuals, and settles down in the artists subjectivity. Decisively it engages with the idea of cultural pluralism, that cannot be understood without democratic values of freedom and equality”, explains the curator of the exhibition, Ricard Silvestre, that has presented this Thursday the exhibition at Cultural Centre La Nau, with the vice-principal of Culture and Equality, Antonio Ariño, and José Manuel Romeu, manager of Romeu, the enterprise that has produced the exhibition.
During this intervention, the vice-principal has highlighted that the universal nature of the exhibition that reflects on one of the phenomenon that affects the most to contemporary society, the inequality: “The world is a box full of inequality and people that have not roots but feet that move on to seek out possibilities”, he said. The role of the Universitat de València, trough culture, as Ariño explained in his intervention, is to support this kind of more experimental initiatives, that stands up for young artists and also it is an involved and critical culture, with contemporary issues. The vice-principal did not want to finish his intervention without thanking an exhibition that is produced by the graphic enterprise that also boosts and believes in this kind of values.
Moreover, José Manuel Romeu has explained that as a graphic business man, it is a great pleasure being able to contribute in the transmission of creativity and freedom of expression that is basically what artists do, though commissioning this exhibition that is celebrated for the first time at Cultural Centre La Nau, but it is the third edition.
“Room Art, 2015. Visual migrations” allows a closer approach to the work of six Valencian artists that live and create outside our borders, and also, to the work of six artists from other countries that live in the Valencian Community, resulting from the interiorization of an experience.
The meanings of migration, set in personal and creative experience of current visual narratives, defined through new eyes, are specified in the work of the twelve participating artists “Room Art, 2015”: Karina Vagradova, Manuel Martínez Ojea, Supi Hsu, Adriana Chávez, Ewa Okolowich, Aldo Alcota, Vicente Perpiñá Giner, Natuka Honrubia, Paula Prats, Pau Pascual Galbis, Nuria Antolí and Daniel Coves, with aesthetic itineraries are necessarily influenced by this change that conditions unavoidably thought, society and also its approach their creations.
The work pieces are accompanied by the reflections of twelve art critics from the Valencian artistic panorama, also in the exhibition: Carmen Senabre, Luisa Pastor, Josep Soler, Montse Hormigos, Aida Antonino, María Ángeles Pérez, Juan Antonio Herrero, Rosalia Torrent, Xesqui Castañer, Amalio Vanaclocha, Elena Monzón and María Fuset.
The project Room Art is a platform for emerging artistic production promoted by ROMEU and through the Centre of Valencian contemporary art documentation “Romà de la Calle” (CDAVC by its Valencian initials) of the Universitat de València, a proposal of artistic research. Over the years, disclosure of knowledge and culture from Romeu and the CDAVC has took shape with the initiative Room Art, an exhibition that accomplishes this year its third edition based in international nature.
