Next Sunday, 30 March, is held the 9th edition of “Experimenta”, a Exhibition Fair-Contest on Experiments and Showings of Physics and Technology, organized by the School of Physics of the UV at the Paseo Sur of the Sciences Museum of Valencia. The contest, convened last November, becomes from 10:00 in the morning in an exhibition opened to all sort of public in where grown-up people and youngsters will be able to observe and understand amazing phenomena explained by 400 participants with 90 different projects.

The Exhibition Fair consists on a exhibition of Physics and Technology of experimental projects built up by students of ESO (Spanish Secondary Education), students of Bachillerato (Spanish Upper Secondary Education) and students of vocational training. The visitants, apart from enjoying the views offered by the City of Arts and Sciences, they will learn about the students’ works and ask as many questions as they want in order to understand their operation and the physic principles in which they are based on. Moreover, the public will be able to vote their favourite contestant or project. Simultaneously, in the “Fisicalandia” workshop, children will be able to build and understand simple showings on Physics. During the entire morning, members of the jury of the contest will walk around all the projects to see their operation and to listen to the contestants’ explanations. The comprehension of one’s own work is a very important feature to valuate.

At 13:30, contestants and public will move the Auditorium of the Museum, where a brief scientific performance will be presented carried out by a group of students of the Physics Degree; there, will also take place the contest award ceremony.

The Faculty of Physics convened this contest for the first time in 2005, aiming to involve secondary school and upper secondary school students in an active and creative way in the World Year of Physics. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by students and the reaction of visitors were extraordinary and decisively contributed to the transformation of this event at an annual Trade Fair. This contest is part of a wider series of initiatives of relation between the UV and the secondary teaching, targeted to engage students with Science and Technology, and improving at the same time, the teaching of Physics. The Exhibition Fair “Experimenta” is carried out in collaboration with the “Càtedra de Divulgació de la Ciència-UCC+I” (Chair of Divulgation of Science-UCC+I), the Spanish Founding for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

Physics is an experimental science which studies the natural world in aspects related with the energy, the matter and their interactions and all the technology around us depends on its knowledge. Hence its study is fundamental to accede to all scientific and technologic qualification, and developing afterwards activities related with research and innovation.
The contest “Experimenta” intends to strengthen scientific vacation among students and contributing to foster quality occupations in essential sectors for the development, in where graduates in physics work generally as versatile professionals, capable of solving problems of multi-disciplinary nature in the field of science and technology.
