A conference analyses regulation and monitoring of audio-visual media and their function as a public service in global society

On Tuesday 9 December, during this conference entitled Comunicación, democracia y servicio público: la regulación y supervisión de los medios audiovisuales en la sociedad global (Communication, democracy and public service: regulation and monitoring of audio-visual media in global society), researchers and audio-visual experts analyse the current regulation and monitoring model of audio-visual media and their function in a global society. This conference is organized by a researchers’ team of the Universitat de València, included in the research project Pluralismo y contenidos en la nueva regulación española de los mercados audiovisuales (Pluralism and contents in the new Spanish regulation of audio-visual markets).

The project is coordinated by Andrés Boix, lecturer of Administrative Law of the Universitat de València, and it is supported by the R + I National Programme. This conference will be attended, among others specialists, by Maria Corominas i Piulats, tenured university lecturer of the Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and ex-director of Studies Branch and Audiovisual Research Council of Catalonia; Alejandro Perales, president of Communication Users Association; Carmen Fuente Cobo, Vice-Principal of IcMedia and María Rosario Fernando Magarzo, general subdirector of Self-monitoring.

On the occasion of this conference, it will be presented in the Audio-visual Monitoring Centre of the Universitat de València, an initiative of this research team intended for a professional and researchers’ disposal of resources and reports through its website: www.observatoriodelaudiovisual.com. The aim of this Monitoring Centre is to analyse, discuss and spread through articles, reports and documents the regulation framework and audio-visual situation in Spain. The purposes of this Monitoring Centre are bound to teachers’ team researches included in the aforementioned project, which mainly belongs to the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences and the Department of Administrative and Procedural Law of the Universitat de València

On the occasion of this conference, the first results of this team work will be presented, in particular, the collective studies volume of La nueva regulación del audiovisual: medios, derecho y libertades (The new audio-visual regulation: means, law and freedoms). Thomson Reuters-Aranzadi (2014) coordinated by Andrés Boix Palop himself, tenured university lecturer of Administrative Law of the Universitat de València, and by José Mª Vidal Beltrán, tenured university lecturer of Constitutional Law of the Universitat de València. With this volume, it will be launched several studies about the RTVV closing in the background of Spanish audio-visual regulation also realised by this team.

This conference Communication, democracy and public service: regulation and monitoring of audio-visual media in global society will take place on 9 December at 09:30 in the Salón de Grados of the Faculty of Language Studies, Translation and Communication of the Universitat de València (Av. Blasco Ibañez, 32, 1st floor, Valencia). Free admission limited to the capacity of the venue
