A Science Park company receives an award for its innovative project and future prospects

The Genomic Medicine Institute (IMEGEN), a biotechnological company located at the University of Valencia Science Park, receives the Innovative Enterprises of the Valencian Community 2012 Award, in the Research Career category. It is an annual recognition to commitment to innovation and future prospects of Valencian companies, granted by the Valencian Business Competitiveness Institute and the European Business and Innovation Centres (CEEI) in the Valencian Community.

The purpose of these prizes is to recognize the effort of these innovative enterprises, to strengthen the socioeconomic fabric, diversify the business dealing, and ultimately, encourage entrepreneurship and innovation. The awards ceremony was held yesterday within the VII Financing and Innovation Forum framework.

By rewarding IMEGEN, the panel wanted to recognise the important growth of the biotech company in invoicing, staff and investments, since it started its activity three years ago in the Science Park as a spin-off of the University of Valencia. IMEGEN is led by the professor Manuel Pérez Alonso, from the Department of Genetics at the University of Valencia. The award was collected by the manager of the company, Ángela Pérez.

Focused on the mission of improving people’s health and quality of life, by providing excellence genetic analysis services, IMEGEN provides services and products based on DNA analysis, focused on genetic diagnostic of human diseases. The company promotes technology transference process and transmission of research results to the clinic lab; it promotes cooperation and alliances with public and private institutions; it supports and participates as an active membership in research projects at national and international level, and implements the recommendations of good-practice, as well as the standards of quality UNEIX/EN/ISO 17025, 15189, 9001. Moreover, the company collaborates with the University of Valencia in the organization, management and teaching of the postgraduate Degree of Medicals Genetic, an exclusive degree of the academic institution itself, which celebrates its second edition and has qualified over hundred biologists, doctors and professionals of health in general.

The prize for “Creation” category was given to ActualMed, an innovative technology-based company, specialized in clinics and hospitals radiological systems and in teleradiology. This company of the region of Castellón has distinguished for its projection and the development of high-technological content products.
