Alba Catalán, winner of Cañada Blanch Foundation Award for a research project at London School of Economics

Alba Catalán, Degree in Economics from the University of Valencia, has been granted last Thursday the Cañada Blanch Foundation Award, in its VI edition, to undertake a research on the efficiency of fixed income capital markets at London School of Economics. Alba Catalán has received the prize from the hands of the Principal of the University of Valencia, Esteban Morcillo. She has been accompanied by the General Director of Cañada Blanch Foundation, Luis Aznar, and by her parents.

The Principal Esteban Morcillo pointed out that, one more year, a brilliant academic record has received the Cañada Blanch Foundation Award, in order to promote research at a centre of excellence such as London School of Economics. Cañada Blanch Foundation Award is given by Cañada Blanch Foundation on an annual basis to postgraduate students of the University of Valencia who have undertaken a research project. “Alba has a Degree in Economics in the course 2011-2012 and she has studied the Stock Exchange and the fixed income capital markets, she is fluent in English and her academic record is exceptional, therefore, the jury has chosen the perfect candidate for the stay of this year in London”, expressed Luis Aznar.

The project presented by Alba Catalán is framed within the corporative finances. “I’d like to undertake a research project on the efficiency of fixed income capital markets. My objective is to investigate if in fact, market is being efficient at the purchase price allocation of bonds (in the medium-term) of the Spanish debt”, she explained. In this way, she will study “the debt market and its history over the past years in order to know how to combat financial speculation and the attack on countries”, she added.

London School of Economics is the most widely recognized and prestigious business school in Europe, ahead of Oxford and Cambridge, is specialized in finances and accountancy. “I want to continue studying and that is why I’d like to apply to a Master Degree, preferably in Europe, therefore I’d like to take advantage of all the options London School of Economics offers”, explained Alba Catalán, who collaborates with the professor Vicente Cuñat in London.

Alba Catalán has undertaken postgraduate studies on Stock Exchange and Financial Markets from University-Business Foundation ADEIT, as well as several language courses and stays abroad. Consequently, she is also fluent in English, language in which the degree was given. Currently, she is a beneficiary of a scholarship of the Official Credit Institute, which ends in March 2013.

The stay at London School of Economics will last three months, from September to December 2013, and the scholarship amount is up to 7,000 euros.
