The Cooperative Research Institute (ISIC) Biotechnology and Biomedicine (Biotecmed) discussed leading research strategies for scientific and technological excellence in the Region Valencia and its transfer to the biotech sector. The day included sixteen lectures designed to promote interdisciplinary research and production sector involvement in the generation and exploitation of scientific knowledge.
The presentations will be responsible for both researchers at the University of Valencia, including the Vice Chancellor for Research and Science Policy, Pedro Carrasco, also responsible for various companies. "The purpose of this first meeting, internal, is to show that we are developing projects in order to find topics of collaboration, sharing potential, and even overcome possible shortcomings," the director of the Institute, Professor of Department of Genetics Juan Ferré Manzanero.
The ISIC Biotechnology and Biomedicine, newly formed, consists of about one hundred researchers from the University of Valencia (about one third are researchers doing their PhD training), organized around an ERI (Structure Research Interdisciplinary) of eleven excellent research groups, five of them with Prometheus program projects, and four biotech companies: Genomic Medicine Institute, and generates Valentia Biopharma Biotech, located at Science Park of the University of Valencia and GemBiosoft, located at the Polytechnic City of Innovation.
The objectives of ISIC are leading scientific research and technological excellence in Valencia, enhance knowledge transfer from the welfare of society and form communities of high-quality research, especially in interdisciplinary areas that can attract talent from people and economic resources. The Institute organizes its activities in units of Microorganisms Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology and Biomedicine and, according to the balance of 2012, in that year were published 35 scientific papers in international journals and yielded about 1.3 million euros of public funding competitive ..
