Botanic Garden tours devoted to water and energy

Ares.

Universitat de València’s Botanic Garden is beginning its tours titled ‘Descobrint el País’ (discovering the country) next October 20. These are devoted to water and energy and are jointly organized by the organization Fil per Randa and the Hiking Centre in Valencia. The tours scheduled are: the the source of the Vinalopó river (in L’Alcoià region), the Arcos river (in Rincón de Ademuz), the medieval mills in Ares ( in L’Alt Maestrat), the Cànyoles river (in La Costera and El Comtat), and Sierra d’Agullent (in La Vall d’Albaida).

These tours are dedicated to water and energy because this year is the Year of Sustainable Energy for All. Nowadays, millions of people cannot have access to non-contaminated water, which is an obstacle to their social and economic development.

This term, rivers have the leading role, and the importance of water to get energy is a fact that will be emphasized. This is the case of paper mills. A tour along the zones which have been a source of energy will be taken.

On October 20, the first tour starts with the visit to the source of Vinalopó river in Banyeres de Mariola in the L’Alcoià region. This is the most important river in Alicante, and the flora, fauna and ancient mills and paper factories will be visited. On October 28, people will be able to go to Arcos river in the Rincón de Ademuz region.

Two more tours are scheduled: one to the medieval mills in Ares and one to Canyoles river. There is still a third tour, a very special one, since it is organized with the help of the environment voluteering association La Codolla. This trip is intended to make people take part in the reforest of one part of Serra d’Agullent after a fire burnt part of it in 2010.
