Jardi Bòtanic.

Universitat de València’s Jardí Botànic hosted yesterday, May 24th, and is hosting today, May 25th, the conference cycle titled ‘Flujos Migratorios: Crisis, Reciprocidad y Seguridad Humana’ (Migratory Flows: Crisis, Reciprocity and Human Security). Alejandro Traes, Rosa Aparicio, Peggy Levitt, and Raúl Delgado-Wise, among other researchers, are taking part in the conference.

The goal of this conference cycle is to reflect on the public policies related to migratory matters in a context of international economic recession, as well as to stress the need to guarantee migrants’ rights. The principles and suggestions arisen from this conference will be gathered in the Declaración de Valencia, a document which would bring together the international experts’ vision on migrations and human mobility.

Seven keynote lectures and eight communications make up the programme, which is focused on four specific topics: New migratory situations; Culture, religion and mobility; National security vs. Human security; and Construction of plural societies.

Thomas Faist, from University of Bielefeld; Raúl Delgado-Wise, chairman of Red Internacional de Migración y Desarrollo; Peggy Levitt from Harvard University; Rosa Aparicio, from Instituto Ortega y Gasset; Lelio Mármora from Universidad de Buenos Aires; Catherine Wihtol de Wenen, chairwoman of Center for International Studies and Research; and Alejandro Portes from Princeton University, are giving the keynote lectures.
