The University Week for Integration, which took place from 3 to 5 December at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Valencia (Tarongers Campus), has welcomed the participation of more than 300 people in a dozen activities proposed by the organization, the Integration of Persons with Disabilities Unit, including workshops, exhibitions, awareness activities, among others.
The closing event took place this Wednesday at the sala d’actes of the Faculty of Social Sciences and was chaired by the General Manager of the University of Valencia General Foundation, Cristóbal Suria and the director of the Integration of Persons with Disabilities Unit (UPD), Celeste Asensi.
Cristóbal Suria has shown his gratitude to all the participants in the conference, as to “all the staff of the University of Valencia General Foundation for their work in organizing this Week for Integration” and has assured that this initiative will be celebrated next year. He also recalled “the commitment of the University with the integration of people with disabilities giving its support to all the initiatives related with this social aspect”
Moreover, he has mentioned the agreements realized lastly with different foundations, such as the implementation of projects to facilitate the academic integration and employability of university students with disabilities from UPD and OPAL, with Universia Foundation, or the collaboration with Vodafone Spain necessary to the successful celebration of the conference ‘Tots iguals, tots diferents’.
Celeste Asensi has specified: “we are a public university committed to society, for this reason, as every year; we wanted to make the conference about the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. And more than ever, to give our support to organizations that work for people with disabilities and are going through difficult times in maintaining the services which have offered until now and with the continuing cuts can’t see a sustainable future”.
The UPD, which has organized the University Week for Integration sponsored by Vodafone Spain Foundation, is a service of the University of Valencia that was born with the aim to ensure the principle of equality and non-discrimination. “Our objective is to contribute to the integration of people with disabilities into the university community and that have the same opportunities as the other students. Is just about to evaluate all youth for their abilities and talent, thinking that we are all different and all equal” added the director of UPD.
Of the 300 participants in the conference the most part were students of the Tarongers Campus, especially of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Also it has attended professionals of associations and organizations dedicated to people with disabilities of the Valencian Country. “Workshops as the presentation of Boccia in Monday or the activity of awareness and the workshop of Tuesday were the activities which more students participate, while professionals and volunteers have preferred to attend conferences and round tables” said Celeste Asensi.
