
The crisis in Las Fallas will focus two conversations, on Monday and Tuesday next week in Cultural Centre La Nau of the Universitat de València. In this issue ten years of these conversations will be reached, organized by the Fòrum de Debats of the Universitat de València and Associació d’Estudis Fallers (ADEF). 'Les temps Falles in crisi' and 'La crisi: A oportunitat of canvi' are the titles of the two debates.
Since 2008, the economic crisis has affected various territories and Spain in particular. This strong crisis, which has had serious repercussions in all areas of daily life, has also had an influence on the “fallero” field. Fallas committees are threatening their survival, others have had a significant decrease in their censuses, and Falla artists workshops and other production centers have had to reduce their workforce, if not reinvent or directly close down.
There are many voices saying that times of crisis are opportunities for new ideas, for creation, innovation, etc. With the aim of discovering the validity of this claim, this year Converses Les Falles, at Cultural Centre La Nau, conversations want to treat the crisis from this point of view. From experiences of people from various sectors of the festival, will examine whether the crisis is a threat or an opportunity for day to day of the festival and all agents that form.
Together, as in all previous editions, for two days they will think collectively, from personal experiences, whether we have opportunities to draw from the crisis and how they should be conducted to ensure that the festival of Fallas not it looks questioned by the economic crisis.
The first roundtable, to be held next Monday, January 19 at 19:00 and will be moderated by journalist Monica Antequera, will focus on 'Las Fallas in times of crisis', with participation in Manuel Gil table Hernández (member of the Association of Studies Fallers), Enrique Sanchis (Vice Falla Valldigna Portal), Ximo Esteve (more vice master Fallas Guild Artisan Artists) and Antoni Aliaga (project "Music and failures" of the Federation of Music Societies of Valencia). They will be accompanied by a zero row with the testimonies of José Manuel Muela (president of the Falla Pintor Domingo-Guillem de Castro), Pedro Agulló (president of the Falla Murillo-Palomar) and Rubén Tello (Member of the Falla Corona).
With the generic title 'The crisis: an opportunity for change', the second panel, which will take place on January 20 at 19 am, will be moderated by journalist Veronica March and will include the participation of Jesus Peris (president of the Association d'Estudis Fallers), Naomi Rodriguez (president of the Falla Castielfabib), Raúl Martínez Chuky (fallero artist), Vicent Almela (fallero artist) and Miquel Platero (graphic designer, yogurt Spawn). From the front row intervene Juanjo Medina (Member of the Falla Plaza de Jesus), Francisco Prósper (president of the Falla Triador), Lluís Benlloch (member of Falles Populars i Combatives), Vicent Maldonado Cordefoc (fallero artist), Carlos Carsí (fallero) artist and Álvaro Moliner (businessman clothing).
With the collaboration and support of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the Museum of Ethnology in Valencia, the Fallas Artists Guild Artisan Valencia, the Interagrupación of Fallas de Valencia, the Association d'Estudis Fallers and the Forum of Debates University of Valencia have this year a new edition of these debates whose format has been consolidated over the years as a space for reflection needed on current and future Fallas. A new opportunity to express the views of the Fallas and think collectively to advance the future.
