Death of Gonzalo Montiel, director of Cultural Management of the Universitat de València in La Nau

Gonzalo Montiel, director of Cultural Management of the Universitat de València in La Nau, suddenly died last Saturday, 26 December, in Valencia while he was practising sport. Montiel, aged 47, had worked at the Student Guidance and Promotion Centre, he had been associate professor at Universitat Jaume I in Castelló and was member of the Gender Based Violence Research Group of the Universitat de València.

As an elected member of the University Senate, he was part of the Governing Council of the Universitat de València within two periods, between 2002 and 2006, and between 2010 and 2013. 

He was graduate in Hispanic Studies and Audiovisual Communication, master’s degree graduate in Journalism and Communication, and PhD in Audiovisual Communication by the Universitat de València. He was associate professor in the Department of Philosophy and Sociology of the Universitat Jaume I in Castelló, where he lectured the subjects Theory of Communication and Social Stratification.

As a professor and researcher he participated in several R&D projects and published some books, articles and chapters in scientific publications focused on the theory of communication, youth, gender and photography. He was a member of ‘Asociación Memoria Industrial y Movimiento Obrero’.

Gonzalo Montiel was born in Puerto de Sagunto, he was married to Elena Martínez, Professor of Administrative and Procedural Law at the Universitat de València, and was father of two girls: Martina and Olivia.
