
On the occasion of the publication of the book ‘No es economía, es ideología’ (Publisher: Deusto), the University of Valencia and the French Institute (Valencia) present a debate, under the same title, with the authors of the book and some members of the group ‘Economistas frente a la crisis’. The event will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, 5 February, at 19:00, at the Cultural Centre La Nau (Aula Magna). This event is considered to be part of Claustre Obert’s programme, the debate space created by the University of Valencia with the collaboration of El País to analyze the most relevant issues related to social, cultural and economic reality. Entrance is free and admission is restricted to available capacity.
Some of the participants in the debate will be Cristina Narbona, Doctor in Economy, Minister of Environment (2004-2008), Ambassadress to OCDE (2008-2011) and Board Member of the Nuclear Safety Council; María Luz Rodríguez, Doctor in Law, Counselor of Employment, Equality and Youth from the government of Castilla La Mancha (2007-2010), Secretary of State for Employment (2010-2011), tenured professor of Labour Law and Social Security at UCLM; Ignacio Muro, economist, Director of EFE Agency (1987-2005) and President of ASINYCO (Information and Knowledge Association); and Jorge Fabra, economist, Doctor in Law, Dean of the Madrid College of Economists (1981-1983), President of Red Elécttrica de España (1988-1997) and member of the National Commission of Energy (2005-2011).
The act will be presented by Fernando Rodrigo, coordinator of the Area of Economy and Social Policies of Equo Foundation, and it will be moderated by Francisco Álvarez, economist and former President of the Valencia Stock Exchange.
Spain is dealing with an economic and social crisis, including record numbers regarding unemployment. According to the data of the latest EPA, unemployment rate lay at 26,02 per cent and the number of people unemployed is almost six million. No es economía es ideología reflects on which are the economic principles that sustain the measures approved by the Government and their European partners. It also analyzes if the adoption of those measures is the only possible way or there are others. In this book, economists from different fields, from the University, the Administration, European institutions or business economists, question the European policies and they suggest formula which must be at the heart of the debate.
