Emergency drill at the Aulari Interfacultatiy in the Burjassot Campus

Aulari Interfacultatiu.

Today Tuesday, 18 December, at 16:30, the Management Unit of the Burjassot Campus will carry out its first emergency fire drill of the Aulari Interfacultatiu of this Campus. The activity has been organized by the Health and Safety and the Environment Service, which belongs to the Management Unit, with the collaboration of the Fire Station of Paterna and Burjassot.

In recent years, the Health and Safety and the Environment Service of the University of Valencia is introducing the Self-Protection Plans in many of its buildings, giving priority to those which have more activity or use. For this reason, during 2011 and 2012 have been revised and implemented the Self-Protection Plan of the Aulari Interfacultatiu of the Burjassot Campus. Within the deployment phase it is included the realization of emergency drills, as a practical exercise.

The drill consists in generating artificial smoke, automatic fire detection, mobilization of the preset emergency equipment, fire fighting, general emergency alarm, complete evacuation of the centre to the meeting points, and emergency call to 112, among other actions. As in other simulations realized in the Campus, the participation of the Fire Station of Burjassot will be very active.

The drill will finish with a meeting of the emergency teams, the observers and firemen, to analyze the performance and to find both errors and improvements.

Simulations allow the evaluation of emergency plans elaborated specifically for each centre or building, and check if its own devices, human and technical, as well as its organization are adequate to face a real emergency situation. Moreover, simulations are a suitable opportunity to exercise and promote preventive culture among the university community, as reflected in the Prevention Plan of the University of Valencia.
