Book cover

The Finance Councillor, Vicent Soler, presents on Monday in the ‘Forum de Debates’ of the Universitat de València the book ‘¿Es posible un mundo sin bancos? La revolución de las finanzas éticas y solidarias’ In the presentation the author of the book Joan Ramon Sanchis Palacio, the editor Miquel Riera (from El Viejo Topo publishing house) and the writer and journalist Alfons Cervera acting as a moderator, will also be participating. The event will take place at 19 in the seminar rooms of the Cultural Centre La Nau.

Joan Ramon Sanchis Palacio is a Business Administration full university professor, director of the University Institute on Social and Cooperative Economics of the Universitat de València and writer of the book ‘La banca que necesitamos’, among others. In this new book, professor Sanchis Palacio suggests a silent financial revolution at global level lead by the civil society through the so called ‘Triple C’: Knowledge, Consciousness and Finance Consumption in a socially responsible way.

The work questions the role of the Spanish banking class (seniors managers and counsellors) since it is one of the best paid in all Europe, with an annual average wage of, approximately, more than two and a half million euros. ‘A practice- he explains- that rewards mismanagement and corruption while we, most of the citizens, see how every year, we loose buying power and quality of life’

The author also offers a reflection about the banking model that society needs nowadays, which has to be its basis and which has to be its function as an instrument at the service of people. He assures that ‘a profound change in the banking model through ethics and social responsibility, betting on a proximity banking related to the needs of society’ is needed. Finally, in the work the financial reformation and counter-reformation, the financial exclusion/inclusion, the ethical financing and cooperatives and the different financing systems alternative to conventional banking, are analysed, offering options and solutions to current problems.
