More than fifty cultural agents and European activists will gather on Wednesday in the Gregori Maians Library (Campus dels Tarongers) to analyse the cultural and citizens’ dynamics in the Valencian neighbourhood of Benimaclet. This European forum is titled “Benimaclet Ready To Change” and it is organised by Relais Culture Europe and the research group of Cavanilles in culture of the economy of Universitat de València (Econcult). The aim is to study the emerging processes of sociocultural transformation, interacting with local agents who activate and identify some tendencies in global key.

Ready to Change is a space for democratic debate in Europe which tries to encourage and activate the social and cultural transformation of the cities. Its first activity was in Ljubljana in 2010, in the framework of the Sostenuto project. Since then, different editions have been developed in Sarajevo, Roma and Paris, and finally arriving to the city of Valencia. According to professor Pau Rausell, who is a responsible of Econcult, “many years ago there were among the citizens’ dynamics in the Valencian neighbourhood of Benimaclet that draw a scene of a possible reconquest of a common space, as well as of a higher empowering of civil society for the satisfaction of the individual and collective health”. These initiatives, added Rausell, “are characterised by the interaction between cultural and festive expressions, their connections with the educational plot, their recognition of the patrimony and the development of public space, a higher importance in the construction of collective imagination and the willing of making as their own the urban planning models, harmonizing them with the natural surroundings and social life”.
