‘Desmuntant Lara Croft. Dones, Arqueologia i Universitat’ is the title of the conference that the Faculty of Geography and History hosts from 27 to 29 November. It is a retrospective about the role of women in the Department of Prehistory and Archaeology from the 30s to present times. A photographic exhibition, a documentary and several conferences are the activities of this meeting.

Today, Thursday 29, will be held in the Saló de Graus of the Faculty. It will be screened the documentary again at 18:00 and two lectures will close the conference: On estem? On anem? Les estadístiques parlen by Miguel Ángel Bel and Carmen Martínez, and Viure l’arqueologia i viure l’arqueologia sent dones by Begoña Soler of the Museum of Prehistory of Valencia and Paula Jardón of the Department f Teaching and Scholastic Organization of the University of Valencia. At 20:00 will be the closing act.

The presentation of the conference has been this Tuesday 27 in the Saló Joan Fuster of the Faculty and then has been screened the documentary, which has given way to the conference Estudis de gènere en arqueologia: passat, present i futur, by Doctor Mireia López-Bertrán of the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT), (Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology). The expert has reviewed the main stages and different schools of thought that have guided gender studies in archaeology since the sixties, she will explain the main ideological and theoretical foundations in which these studies are based. Also she will show different practical applications. Right after, has been inaugurated the exhibition in the hall of the Faculty with a guided tour.

Wednesday 28, the Professor Carmen Aranegui of the Department of Prehistory and Archaeology of the University, has given the lecture Postales desde el pasado, which has focused on postcards archived since the second half of the XX century. In her opinion these postcards can contribute to estimate if Archaeology has evolved in the last sixty years and also if the collaboration of women in this profession depends on the attitudes assumed it.

The Professor Consuelo Mata, also of the Department of Prehistory and Archaeology has presented the conference De la Naturaleza muerta al paisaje con figuras en la Arqueología (ibérica), which has reviewed the introduction of images in the publications about Iberian world.

The conference is organized by the group Espiera- Compartint Coneixements Arqueològics, sponsored by the University of Valencia.
