The first “regional code of laws” of Valencia are presented Thursday at Cultural Centre La Nau

Imatge de la primera edició dels Furs.

Universitat de València and the Valencian Academy of Language (AVL by its Spanish initials) began last year “Clàssics a La Nau”, a series of conferences to bring bibliographic treasures of the Historical Library of the Universitat de València, which houses unique works and a core value for the knowledge of Valencian history and culture

This Thursday, January 29, Aniceto Masferrer, full University Professor of Law at the Universitat de València, will present the conference “Furs e ordinacions del Regne de València”. El movimiento compilatorio en la tradición jurídica valenciana” (Regional code of laws and ordinances of the Valencian Kingdom. The compilation movement in the Valencian legal tradition). Prince Edition (first printed edition of a manuscript work) that collects the privileges of Valencia since King James I swore to the Courts of the Kingdom on 7 April 1261. This work is the first edition of a Valencian legal text.

As usual in the incunabula, it has no cover. The model preserved in the Historical Library of the Universitat de València is one of the most beautifully illustrated, with capital letters in gold leaf and blue, decorated with red and violet filigree, and initials in red and blue alternately.

The conference will be held in the Aula Magna of the Cultural Centre La Nau, at 19 pm (free admission limited to the capacity of the venue). The series takes place over 15 sessions, from September 2014 to February 2016, the last Thursday of each month and always at the same time.

Through this series, the Universitat wants to show their bibliographic heritage, not only to great researchers, but also students, teachers, and curious readers.
