Francisco González, lecturer of commercial law, new president of the Commission for the Protection of Competition

Francisco González Castilla and María José Vañó Vañó, lecturers in the Department de Dret Mercantil at Universitat de València, have been appointed president and member respectively of the Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Valencian Community. This body is charged of enabling Valencian markets to operate competitively. Both González and Vañó have been appointed by the Valencian Minister of Economy, Industry and Trade, Máximo Buch.

This Commission also works for an effective competition between markets. Among its functions are solving the procedures of a disciplinary nature which have as their object the offences described in the Act 15/2007 of Protection of Competition. Other function is bringing judicial proceedings or disciplinary procedures through the Service for Protection of Competition, as well as having an advisory role on competition and research studies on the field, and finally, making interim awards in the dispute settlements which may arise under the Act 60/2003, art. 14, of December 23rd.

Francisco González Castilla has pointed out that the authorities for the defense of competition have a vital role in the economic recovery. They ensure a scenario which is likely to host entrepreneurial ventures, innovation, and fair competition. Among the functions of the commission, the newly appointed president wishes to reinforce the research and promotion actions for a culture of competition in the main Valencian economic sectors. With this goal in mind, events, meetings, seminars and activities analyzing the application of anti-trust law in the Valencian Community will be boosted.
