The journalist Pere Miquel Campos awarded the XIII Premio Vicent Ventura

The Valencian journalist and writer Pere Miquel Campos is awarded the XIII Premio Vicent Ventura. The Universitat de València created this prize in 2000 as a tribute to the journalist, politician and civic activist who died in 1998. This prize is awarded to one person or group outstanding because of the civic, democratic and committed trajectory to Valencian language and culture.

Coordinated by Alfons Cervera, writer and coordinator of the Universitat de València’s Fòrum de Debats. The organization and judges was made up of people close to Vicent Ventura and the entities Universitat de València, Universitat Jaume I de Castelló, CCOO, STEPV, UGT, Unió de Llauradors i Ramaders and Unió de Periodistes Valencians.

The awarding ceremony will take place on April 20th along a dinner in Alicante organized by the Unió de Periodistes Valencians. This edition’s award is a sculpture by Sebastià Miralles.

The journalist and writer Pere Miquel Campos was born in Picassent (L’Horta, València, 1950). When he was six years old, his family moved to Mutxamel (Alicante), where they have always lived and are still living. He cofounded the Unió de Periodistes Valencians.

His career has developed within the Alicante and Valencian medias: Radio Popular, Información, El País, Hoy, Diario 16, Valencia Semanal, Presidencia de la Generalitat Valenciana, V Centenary of the city of Alicante. Between 1989 and 2007, he worked for some news services and radio programmes in Radio 9 and Canal 9 (RTVV).

He wrote the biography 'Arcadi Blasco, Retrat' (Portrait of Arcadi Blasco) published by the Museo de la Universitat d' Alacant in 2009 about the sculptor and ceramicist born in Mutxamel. He has also published ‘Així eren. Alacantins en els 80’ (Alicante’s people in the 80’s. As they were), thanks to the Instituto Alicantino de Cultura Juan Gil-Albert and the Alicante’s council. This is a book including some interviews to outstanding social, politics, legal and cultural figures of Alicante.

He collaborates as a teacher in the Universitat d’Alacant’s Observatorio de Mayores y Medios de Comunicación de la Universidad Permanente, where he teaches radio and press.

Up to now, some entities and figures like Rosa Serrano, Josep Lluís Bauset, Ferran Sanchis Cardona, the Societat Coral El Micalet and Frederic Jordà, Escola Valenciana, the Colegio Público Censal de Castelló, Manuel Safont, Trini Simó, Enric Tàrrega, Bernat Capó, Francesc de Paula Burguera, the magazine Saó and the singer Paco Muñoz have been awarded this prize.
