Journalists Montserrat Boix and Ramon Lobo have agreed on Thursday to encourage the ONGD to change and adapt their communication strategies in social networks for greater visibility in the media map. They have done it in the first conference on 'Journalism and Cooperation: South in the media' that continued in the afternoon with a public lecture by Ramon Lobo.
Wolf's intervention took place in Room Sanchis Guarner of the Faculty of Philology, Traducció i Comunicació and was presented by Guillermo Palao, chief executive of South-North Patronage, entity under the General Foundation of the University of Valencia.
Ramón Lobo has referred to the current economic crisis to assert that "it is destroying the basis of journalism." "No street, everything is canned, not covered, only states", he said. In this regard, the reporter has criticized social policies of governments and encouraged citizens to claim their rights. "We must demand policies. You can not privatize the responsibility of governments to deal with those who need it, "he argued. As for the news coverage of conflicts, has indicated that the information professional "have to work from absolute respect for the victims," and therefore, "the information can not be a second violation of rights".
Montserrat Boix, meanwhile, has insisted that "above all is the right to information, communication and access to knowledge of citizenship", a fact that is regulated by law in Latin America, where the new constitution of Ecuador, for example, already reflects this right, and as a television journalist (working on the drafting of International Information Services TVE), acknowledged that the images are the main factor of the information that is made on television conflicts , "regardless of their interest."
Thus Boix reminded that is no longer about Mali, for example, and he has urged the ONGD to bet on non-utilitarian communication, changing their strategies, including the use of social networks, especially Twitter, where many journalists are present who can be reached no matter what immediacy is causing the conflict at that time."The networks allow you to work in another way, not to make calls and phone calls, you can go further, share data and different sources," he stated.
The founder of the blog "Women in Red 'has encouraged ONGD also become small production companies to include cooperation in the mainstream media. Thus, in his view, organizations could raise global communication strategies and generate credible quality products. "There's no money, but we have ideas, to which we must give ground and develop citizenship wherever you are," said.
These interventions have been followed by a workshop during which two journalists have held a discussion with attendees to identify other strategies to optimize the work of the ONGD and improve information on North / South. The event also counted with the participation of Corina Mora and Oti Margarit, responsible 2015ymás Platform Madrid and Valencia, respectively.
