Julio Fernández is still the dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry of Universitat de València

The sealing system of the Faculty of Nursing and Podiatry of Universitat de València re-chose on Thursday professor Julio Fernández as its dean, the only candidate. The outcome of the vote was 15 votes in favour and 6 in blank. The team is made up of Omar Cauli, Antoni Merelles and María Luisa Ballestar.

Julio Fernández Garrido (Valencia, 1966), who is a nurse and he received a doctorate in Social Anthropology, is a professor of the Department of Nursing since 1992.  After some years in which he combined his work as a professor with the care hospital activity within the emergency care (Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valencia) and geriatrics. He focused his professional career on the teaching researching context at Universitat de València.

 

His teaching experience complements itself with a research activity: he is the author of 3 books, of numerous chapters on books of international diffusion, he wrote 32 scientific articles, more than a half ten of sessions and communications at scientific congresses and 10 research projects sponsored by different institutions. In the last years, he focused on the research of facts which have an influence on the quality of life around different situations of the vital cycle (chronicity, fragility and dependency) and towards the anthropology of cures.

 

He collaborated in a systematic way with different institutions and associations of national and international characters to encourage the research and promotion of teaching in nursery, which made him become a member of the National Committee of Experts for the design of the Specialties of Nursery, organised by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. Nowadays, he is the Secretary of the Conferencia Nacional de Decanos de Enfermería (meaning National Conference of Deans of Nursery), and he is also the Vice-President of the Aladefe European Region (Latino-American Association of Nursery Schools and Faculties).

 

Julio Fernández is the Director of the FROG research team about the fragility of elder people, whose activity is to identity the diagnostic tools of the fragility and search of biomarkers, and which is giving an interesting scientific recognized production on the published articles of prestigious magazines such as “American Heart Journal” or “Experimental Gerontology” among others.
