The full professor of contemporary history Pedro Ruiz Torres.

The full professor of contemporary history Pedro Ruiz Torres has given the lecture ‘Los usos públicos del pasado’ (the public uses of the past times) within the cycle ‘Cultura e Integración Social’, which is organized by the micro-cluster ‘Cultura i Societat en l’Era Digital’. The event has taken place in the Facultat de Filologia, Traducció i Comunicació’s meetings room.

‘The notion of public uses of the past times has extended in the last years with the aim of appointing a new object of study and a socio-cultural fact which has been changing throughour the years and has an unknown profile nowadays’, the formar Principal of UV has affirmed. ‘Because of this last reason, the use of “public uses of the past times” covers and goes beyond other concepts like “political uses of history”, “memory policies”, “recovery of historical memory” or “public uses of history”. The lecture will explain what means the new object of study, in which context it has been created or why it has become so relevant.

Other topics discussed in the cycle are the political situation and the journalistic humour, the austerity culture and sustainability, or art and urban environment. The cycle Cultura e integración social is running until December 5. It is organized by Universitat de València through its micro-cluster Cultura y Sociedad en la Era Digital.
