The Vice-Principal for International Relations and Cooperation grants the 2012-2013 Luisa Cardona scholarship for students coming from developing countries. These scholarships spare students the university tuition fees. Deadline for applying is October 15. Last academic year, 168 scholarships were granted amounting 241,473 Euros.
The grant holders are students mainly coming from countries like Algeria, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Marruecos, Mauritana, Mexico, Nicaragua, Palestina, Peru, Dominican Republic, Senegal, Syria, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
This is the second time the scholarships are being granted. Both degree and master`s degree studies are included in the same category –up to 2010 there were two separated categories: South-North Trust scholarships and Ayudas para la Exención de Tasas de Máster-. From now, the two will be managed by the Office of the Vice-Principal for International Relations and Cooperation. Funding comes from the amount agreed by the Commission and it is included in the programme of solidarity with the third world called Una Nave de Solidaridad.
The goal of these scholarships is allowing people from less favoured countries to have the opportunity to receive higher education at Universitat de València.
Luisa Cardona Sahuquillo was a social educator and pedagogist and she studied at Universitat de València. She worked for the South-North Trust in the General Foundation of Universitat de València helping with cooperation projects. She worked in the tuition fees section helping students who came to study at our university. These scholarships are named after her now to acknowledge the work she did.
