
The director of the Museum Reina Sofia, Manuel Borja-Villel (Burriana, Castellón, 1957), participate today, Friday, 22 February, at the discussions of the Claustre Obert, which are held in the Cultural Centre of La Nau of the University of Valencia, with a lecture entitled 'The future of museums'.The debate can also be followed through the television of the University of Valencia live.
The conference, to be held at 18 pm in the Aula Magna of the building, is organized in collaboration with the Valencian Association of Art Critics (AVCA). Admission is free (limited to the capacity of the room) and is part of the programming of the Claustre Obert, discussion space created by the University of Valencia, through the Department for Culture and Equality, and the newspaper El Pais, to analyze the most important issues of current social, cultural and economic aspects.
The prestigious Spanish historian, Manuel Borja-Villel, who has been museum director at the Antoni Tapies Foundation in Barcelona since its inauguration as well as at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA), will be joined by Roman de la Calle, Professor of Aesthetics and Art Theory of the University of Valencia and president of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia and Antonio Ariño, vice-principal for Culture, Equality
and Communication of the University of Valencia, as moderator.
Román de la Calle, who will present the debate, has written an interesting op-ed for NAU XXI (http://nauxxi.uv.es), titled "Two moments of reflection", which serves as an introduction to the history of the speaker and the debate on the future of museums. NAU XXI is a project by the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture, Equality and Communication of the University of Valencia to contribute to the social debate online and with classroom events.
