
Maria Blasco, head of the National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), will deliver the inaugural lecture of the “Trobades d’Estudiants” Students Encounters of the Faculty of Pharmacy, this Monday, on 31March. The session will start at 12:00 at the Charles Darwin room of the Aulario Interfacultatiu of the campus of Burjassot.
Maria A. Blasco (from Verdegàs, Alicante) undertook her doctoral thesis in the Center of Molecular Biology Severo Ochoa (CSIC-UAM; Madrid) under the supervision of Margarita Salas. Thereafter, she obtained a doctor of Molecular Biochemistry and Biology Degree in 1993 at the Autonomic University of Madrid. The same year, Blaco transferred to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (Cold Spring Harbor, Nueva York, EE.UU.), where she joined the laboratory run by Carol W. Greider, as a Postdoctoral Fellow.
He came back to Spain in 1997 to settle as the chief of group in the National Center of Biotechnology (CSIC; Madrid). She transferred to the National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO: Madri) in 2003 as chief of the group Telomere and Telomerase; HEAD of the Molecular Oncology program, and deputy director of Basic Research.
