Mètode’s new monograph is titled ‘La cala encantada. Ciencia y cultura alrededor de la cala mediterránea’ (The enchanted cove. Science and culture on the Mediterranean cove). It is about the Mediterranean coves and its geological, morphological conditions, their relation with literature and painting, or the effects of tourism on them. The monograph is coordinated by professor emeritus of geography at Universitat de València Vicenç M. Roselló.

The Mediterranean cost is full of small coves. Strictly speaking, the coves are defined by its calcareous component, which is a feature of the Migjorn coves in Menorca and Sa Marina in Mallorca.

This monograph has been inspired by the painting by the Catalan Joaquim Mir, La cala encantada, as long with the different interpretations of the work by the Valencian artists Eva Mus, Rosa Torres and Anna Sanchis.

It includes several articles on topics as the Red Weevil pest devastating the Valencian palm trees, the 140th anniversary of the first natural park in the world, Yellowstone, or the essay about Marie Curie by Pilar Goya and María Luisa Jiménez.

MÈTODE, 50 issues and 20 years spreading scientific knowledge

Mètode was born in 1992 and is directed by the journalist and biologist Martí Domínguez with the objective of bringing science closer to society. The cooperation of artists, scientists and writers make Mètode a remarkable bridege between scientific and humanistic cultures.

The journal is going to publish a new issue of its collection Monografies Mètode: Herbari: L’home i les plantes by Daniel Climente and Ferran Zurriaga to celebrate its issue number 75. This issue will deal with the plants around us from a cultural, botanical and social point of view.

Among the prizes awarded to Mètode since it was first published, there is Prisma Especial del Jurado 2009, Premio Ciencia en Acción 2006, Premi APPEC 2007, and Premio Nacional de Periodismo 2007 – this one was awarded to Martí Domínguez acknowledging his work.
