The Spanish Network of Anna Lindh Foundation celebrates its XVI Annual Assembly on 12 and 13 November, at La Nau, in a meeting hosted by UV General Foundation and which will gather more than fifty Spanish oraganisations. The opening act, today Thursday, at 11:00, will be lead by the UV General Foundation manager, Cristobal Suria, and the managing director of IEMed, Josep Ferré.
Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) is an inter-governmental institution in which the countries from Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), European Union (EU) and Arab League, based in Alexandria (Egipt) participate. It works as a “network of networks” and it is formed by 42 national networks from euro-mediterranean regions with more than 4,000 civil society organisations.
Its main objective is to bring people from the Euromed space together as a means to promote respect for diversity and dialog between citizens from different cultures, origins and beliefs.
In order to achieve that, Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) encourages the initiatives from member civil organisations that defend universal shared values, like respect for diversity, human rights dignity, peace and democracy.
On 12 and 13 November, the Spanish Network of ALF, with more than 130 organisations throughout the Spanish territory, celebrates its XVI Annual Assembly in the historical building of the Universitat de València, the Cultural Centre La Nau, where the attendance of more than fifty collectives is expected.
This meeting will allow the establishment of a work plan until 2017; the exchange of practical actions through a workshop of Acción Intra Red divided in thematic groups; and a training session on the European financing map and the opportunities for the euro-mediterranean entities from the social sector.
The Spanish Network of ALF, which includes the UV General Foundation as a member since 2014, carries out its activities in different field, like development cooperation, intercultural dialog, gender equality, youth, education, immigration, environment and means of communication. The IEMed is the network coordinator.
‘Quaderns de la Mediterrània’
Within this context, the presentation of the magazine ‘Quaderns de la Mediterrània’ took place on Wednesday 11.
The European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), founded in 1989, is a consortium comprising the Catalan Government, Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Barcelona City Council, with a clear role as ‘think tank’ specialised in Mediterranean relations based on a multidisciplinary and networking approach. IEMed produces many publications, among them, ‘Quaderns de la Mediterrània’ with the aim of reflecting about the intercultural dialect and anthropological reality of Mediterranean societies.
La Nau Cultural Centre hosted the presentation of the number of ‘Mediterranean Challenges / Retos Mediterráneos’, which offers an analysis of the different fields of action that form the Proceso de Barcelona (Barcelona Process). “Despite the difficulties, we have now the opportunity to examine the challenges and to propose initiatives for a better future for the euro-mediterranean region” said members from the Institute.
The dossier of the magazine examines the various cooperation areas mentioned in the 1995 Declaration (economy, energy, transport, gender, communication...) and stablishes the basis on which the future has to be posed again in each of these aspects. This is why the publication counts with the participation of several experts who wanted to join this initiative, like the professors from the Universitat de València Javier de Lucas and Josep Maria Jordan Galduf, for exemple.
Additionally the dossier is presented in five sections, with the title ‘La sociedad civil de hoy’ (Today’s civil society), ‘Un espacio en crisis’ (A territory in crisis), ‘Los retos de las mujeres’ (The challenges of women), ‘Medios de comunicación y tecnologías digitales’ (Means of communication and digital technologies) and ‘Retos económicos y medioambientales’ (Economic and environmental challenges).
The magazine was presented by the IEM managing director, Josep Ferré; the director of the publication, Maria Àngels Roque; the dean of the Faculty of Geography and History of the Universitat de València, Esther Alba; the vice-president of the NGO CERAI (Centro de Estudios Rurales y de Agricultura Internacional), Vicent Garcés; and Lola Bañón, journalist, professor at the Universitat de València, and member of the Mediterranean Citizens’ Assembly (ACM).
