Mostra Viva 2014 starts tomorrow with more than 60 films and free activities in La Nau, Botanical Garden, SGAE, Octubre and Teatro Flumen

Mostra Viva/Cinema del Mediterrani will take place from 4 to 8 December. “Mostra Viva” Association organizes this film festival along with the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Equality of the Universitat de València. In this film festival there will be more areas for screenings and shows. It stands out La Nau, with four more areas (Aula Magna, Aules Seminari, Sala Matilde Salvador and Capella de la Sapiencia).

The presentation press conference counted on the participation of Antonio Ariño, Vice-Principal for Culture and some members of “Mostra Viva” Association from every sector: Vicent Tamarit, Antonio Llorens (cinema), Giovanna Ribes (Woman and cinema) Oriol Caballé (music), Amparo Carbonell (Plastic arts and round-meeting tables with Maite Ibánez) Vicent Gregori (Poetry - Citizen Areas) and Vicente Cortés (Performing arts). 

This initiative is financed and supported by Botanical Garden of the Universitat de València, Octubre Centre de Cultura Contemporània, Valencian SGAE (Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers), Fundation Charles Leópold Mayer pour le Progrès de l’Homme, Asamblea de Ciudadanas y Ciudadanos del Mediterráneo (Association of Mediterranean Citizen), Casa Árabe, European Parliament LUX Prize, the ONG Global Network for Right and Development and the firms Cervezas Turia and Pollos Planes.

According to responsibles of “Mostra Viva” Association, the aim in this festival is to recover Mediterranean identity through sharing different art works. “It’s necessary that both Mediterranean shores, north and south, know each other and reflect on Mediterranean through culture” Vicent Tamarit stated. 

For his part, Vicent Gregori recalled that in relation with last Mostra Viva, in which more than 2,500 people participated, the number of areas has increased and they aim to increase assistance, specially, in discussion activities. 

Antonio Ariño, Vice-Principal for Culture, has explained that it is a “duty” that the Universitat de València, hosts this kind of cultural activities. 

Besides these four additional areas in La Nau, in Octubre Centre de Cultura Contemporània, you can find two more exhibition rooms and a cinema. Botanical Garden will open its assembly hall and gardens to music and circus. SGAE hall will show films; and, finally, Teatro Flumen will host two music nights. The varied activities programme, which includes eight films seasons, music, circus, art and discussions is free entrance and is limited by the capacity of the halls.

Among this Mostra Viva guests, we can find: Claudio Bigagli, Italian actor (Kaos by Taviani brothers), Cecilia Bartolomé, Spanish director (Lejos de África, 1996) and Viola Shakif, expert on Arab cinema.
