Musical groups from the University of Valencia prepare a very intense music programme on the occasion of Christmas parties in several cities. A total of ten concerts with outstanding performance in the Palau de la Música in Valencia, both Philharmonic Orchestra of the University, which is a novelty, so that the orchestra does not act on these dates in the Valencian auditorium and the Choral Society of the University of Valencia, which one year more in this space offers traditional concert “El món canta davant d’un bressol”.
The Philharmonic Orchestra of the University have prepared for the Christmas performance on 19 December at the Palau de la Música, at 20:00, a characteristic of these concert dates. According to its director Hilari Garcia, "The program is tailored to serve society", so that the first part gathers "the Viennese musical tradition of Christmas and New Year concerts, with works by Nicolai and Strauss , while in the second part, the spotlight falls on the popular tradition represented by the famous Christmas music (arranged and orchestrated by Pascual Martinez and J.R. Gil-Tàrrega), along with other pieces of original holiday themed other composers (L. Anderson, Lenon or Feliciano) but not least known".
The scene of Palau will have more than 200 performers and the orchestra will be accompanied by more than 120 children from various corals schools: Schola Cantorum of Aldaia, Coral School Musical Union of Almansa, School of Music Camp de Morvedre, Coral School of l' Eliana and Coral School of La Nau of the University of Valencia, who will participate in the second part of the concert.
In addition to the performance of the Palau de la Música, the Orchestra will give a concert on 20 December at 13:00 in the Charles Darwin Hall of Burjassot campus with the repertoire of Viennese waltzes and polkas.
Before the Orchestra, the Coral School La Nau, directed by Monica Perales, and formed by children from 4 years, will offer its Christmas concert on 14 December at 12:00 at the History Museum of Valencia, with a programme in which the children will sing folk songs and Christmas carols from many sources, and then, on 18 December, will offer a concert of carols in the Chapel of Wisdom of La Nau (19.30) together with Coral Club of La Nau Gran, consisting of over sixty singers over 55 years.
Moreover, the Choral Society of the University of Valencia stars a whirlwind tour in several cities in coming days because of the holidays. They have prepared a two-part programme, one of them with XVI century Valencian carols accompanied by the wind group Lux Venti; and a second in which they will perform Christmas songs from around the world, accompanied on piano by David Morales. The traditional concert at the Palau de la Música (with this programme) and entitled “Davant d'un bressol” will be on 23 December at 20:00.
