
The 2008 Nobel Prize in Medicine, Harald zur Hausen, will receive on Tuesday academic honor of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Sciences of Valencia, chaired by Antonio Llombart. Professor José María Martín Moreno is responsible for the presentation of Hausen who will then deliver a lecture on the relationship between human papillomavirus and cervical cancer discovery, which got the highest scientific award. The event is open to the public and will take place at 19:00 in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry of the University of Valencia.
The scientist and doctor Harald zur Hausen was born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. He is the president of the German Cancer Aid, the largest European organisation in the fight against cancer and managing editor of the International Journal of Cancer. He won the Nobel Prize in 2008, together with scientists Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier. Between 1983 and 2003 he was president and member of the German scientific advisory board of the Center for Cancer Research (DKFZ). Among other many international distinctions.
