The university community of the Burjassot-Paterna Campus collaborates another year in the Peace Caravan, a solidarity project of humanitarian aid for the Saharawi refugees in Tindouf camps, Algeria. So, there will be a contribution of food (sugar, oil and rice) that will be collected until 19 December through containers located at the entrance of several buildings of the Campus.
The Caravan of Humanitarian Aid is organized by the Federation of Associations of Solidarity with the Saharawi (fasps@hotmail.com) and the delegation of the R.A.S.D, through the Saharawi Red Crescent. In last year’s edition were collected 198 kilograms of food and 895 Euros, which contributed to shipping. The collection of this year is intended to provide around 200.000 Saharawi people, mostly children and elderly, who are experiencing a dramatic situation for lack of basic food. This situation has worsened as a result of the constant cuts in humanitarian aid by the official bodies.
To facilitate the collection of food, the Burjassot-Paterna Campus has provided containers at the entrance of the buildings of the Serveis Generals (next to reprography), the Deganats de Investigació (SCSIE), IATA and institutes, halls and departments. The containers are conveniently marked with the sign of the Humanitarian Caravan.
Moreover, the economic collaboration for shipping the food can be made by individual transfers to the account number 2100-2831-58-0200039406 of the NGO Solidarity with the Sahrawi, of Valencia, Al-Amal. In the transfer you should specify ‘Campus de Burjassot-Paterna Caravana 2013’. This contribution also can be made by delivery to the managers of the Campus: Mercè Pamblanco (merce.pamblanco@uv.es), of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Begoña Herrero (bherrero@uv.es)) and Núria Romero (nuria.romero@uv.es), of the Department of Genetics (ext. 44843): and Luz Cardona (luz.cardona@uv.es), of the Department of Organic Chemistry (ext. 43039).
