The French Philology Professor, Domingo Pujante, will be awarded this Friday, 9 June 2017, the French insignia of the Order of Academic Palms. The event will take place at the Institut Français of Valencia at 19:30 and it will be chaired by Gérard Teulière, director of the institution, who will act on behalf of the French Ministry of Education.
This French honour can be awarded to those foreigners who have stood out by their important work and service to education as well as their commitment in the French cultural promotion.
It was the Emperor Napoleon who instituted in 1808 the early ‘Palmes académiques’. This prestigious honorary title aimed at honouring the eminent members of the French University. In 1866 Napoleon III widened the award to anyone who have contributed to education, regardless of his profession and nationality. In 1955 the French President René Coty introduced the Order of Academic Palms as it is known today. This award is the most ancient French honour that currently exists and it is made up of two identical silver laurel branches which intersect and which hang from a violet moire ribbon. Together with the medal, it is given a certificate of the French Ministry of Education to make the honour official.
Domingo Pujante is linked to the Universitat de València since 1996. He received the outstanding PhD thesis award (2003) and the award of the UIMP “Imaginando: una mirada joven a la frontera del conocimiento” (2008). He directs the research group “HYBRIDA: hibridaciones culturales e identidades migrantes” (HYBRIDA: cultural hybridizations and migrant identities). He is interested in the cultural and postcolonial studies from an intercultural and gender perspective, as well as in the identity topics related to exile and migrations. He has been guest professor at the universities of Bordeaux, Limoges and Picardy and guest researcher in universities such as Sorbonne in Paris and and California in Berkeley. He has held different management posts as Secretary of the Department of French and Italian Philology and Exchange Coordinator. He is member of the French Linguistic Table of the CRUE.
