The International Chair UNESCO-IECO of Management, Government, Trust and Alterity has opened its activities with the first seminar on ethics in organizations. The primary objective of the Chair, attached to the universities of Valencia and the Technical University of Valencia, is the ethical training of leaders (and future leaders) politicians, institutions, companies and even NGOs.
The first activity that the Chair has opened has been a 50-hour seminar on 'Ethics in organizations. Building Trust ', which was attended by 130 people and which has counted on the participation of teaching staff of the University of Valencia, The Technical University of València, UCH-CEU and Catholic University of Valencia.
Manuel Guillén, academic director of the Chair and professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Valencia, pointed out the entire team satisfaction at the outcome of this first activity. "We are all very happy with the reception received to the course among students. It has meant the opportunity to make them reflect, among many others, about the ethical dimension of all professional activity, including economic and business activities, about the ethical foundations of sustainability, the importance of ethics in building trust in institutions, how to contribute to have healthier organisations ethically, or how to take decisions always relying on the criterion of efficiency and effectiveness, but never forgetting ethics," he said.
Meanwhile, Blanca Ros, seminar participant, said: "As a student, I am infinitely grateful to have access to such courses because there is nothing like this that is integrated into the curriculum of our careers. In my career, Political and Public Administration Sciences, there is no subject that approaches decision making, or how to act ethically."
The International Chair- UNESCO-IECO is planning other activities throughout the year. As pointed Guillén, on 4 April, there will take place in the United States the first International Symposium IECO-UNESCO on 'The role of ethics, values and dignity in building trust'. The meeting was held at the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and organizers of the Chair intend to broadcast it through the website of the University of Valencia and the Polytechnic University of Valencia .
Furthermore, in May there will be several courses on team leadership based on trust, talent, creativity and confidence, ethical leadership in business management, led by a professor at the University of Helsinki, and the history of ethics for nonspecialists.
