
The University of Valencia premieres Wednesday, 29 January, the theatre programme for the second semester of the course with 'Medea en Camariñas' Samaruc Teatre (Teatronce), a company founded over two decades ago to promote integration through theatre. Most of the cast is comprised for a blind people or with vision deficiency.
This contemporary version of the classic myth, written by Andrés Pociña, was awarded the Prix Modesto Figueiro of narratives in Galician. Dramaturgy and direction of this choral work, where all the actors play sometime show a very contemporary Medea, borne by Begoña Sánchez.
Between January and June the Hall Matilde Salvador of the Cultural Centre of the University La Nau will host more than forty productions, all at 19:30. Admission is free with invitation and can be collected from one hour before the commencement of proceedings at the concierge of La Nau.
The Programme of the Theatre Club of the University of Valencia, directed by Ferran Grau, is composed of representations of experimental, alternative and non-traditional nature of Valencian companies. Many of the assemblies come from young people, and sometimes the university.
In February several Valencian companies work highlight, as ‘Dependencias’, PH Victoria (12 and 13 February), ‘Para que no te me olvides’, Lupa Theatre (19 and 20 February), and ‘Edmond’, by Companyia Jove Teatre and directed by Eva Zapico.
Many Classics will be at the Hall Matilde Salvador of the University in March. In this type of assembly highlights the Komos Group, winner of the First Prize at the National Competition of Greco-Roman Theatre Groups organized by the Spanish Ministry of Education, ‘Troyanas’ by Euripides (4, 5 and 6 March) and 'Edipo Rey' by Sophocles (11,12 and 13 March). Another classic directed by Tono Berti will be 'Los malcasados de Valencia' by Guillén de Castro to hit the scene 26 and 27 March.
In April they will perform 'Ètica, tattoos i saldos' (2 and 3 April) Company of Patricia Pardo, a show hardly classifiable where circus techniques are mixed with other contemporary languages . After this show the company from Gandía Lletraferits & comediants will perform 'Amnèsia "The Best Reality Show"' (9 and 10 April ) and the month will end with the premiere of 'Mentides' (29 and 30 April and 2 May) the new show by Assaig-GTUV, the theater group of the University of Valencia, who is about to turn 25 years of history. Directed by Pep Sanchis, the staging takes place in a train station where various characters have a special relationship with the lies as a common denominator.
May start with one of the most adapted works of horror , 'Dracula'. This classic by Bram Stoker, which will be performed on 7 and 8 May, will be played by Filoeduca theater, a collective formed by students of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Social Education at the University. In this month will be also open the show scene for the tour Erasmus 'The Little Europes', which will visit few municipalities of Valencia. This university project designed to promote the practice of theatre among Erasmus students and which won the Charlemagne Youth Prize of the European Parliament (2011) embarks on a new tour to bring the theatre to less populated villages of Valencian geography.
As every year, the programme will conclude with the example of the permanent theatre workshops, which are taught throughout the course and ‘El nacimiento del cómico y el poder de la palabra’ by the group Amics de la Nau Gran. Finally, the Hall of Theatre of the University, which was awarded the Micalet Award by Valencian Regional Government, the best non-professional contribution by a stable theatre programming, also has a formative and offers courses (according to age and level) with a great success: they have covered the 75 places available each year and no waiting list.
