
A total of 80 students of second year of batxiller (Spanish upper secondary school education) from different centres in the university district of Valencia, participated last Tuesday in the preselection of the 27 Local Physics Olympiad. The 23 classified students will now have to make a free course of more than 70 hours which will be taught by professors of Physics from the Universitat de València.
When this course is over, the students will participate in the local test of the Olympiad, which will be celebrated next 1 March. The students will be able to aim for different prizes given by the Universitat de València and the Universitat Politècnica de València, and which include, among others, the free enrolment in the first year in the Universitat de València or the equivalent amount in academic material. What is more, the classified students in the local test will be able to participate in the national phase which, probably, will be celebrated in Seville in 2016.
The Physics Olympiad is an international competition in which students from many different countries will participate and which is organised at state level by the Real Sociedad Española de Física (RSEF). The Universitat de València -throught the Faculty of Physics and the Delegation for University Integration- is in charge of managing the local phase of this competition, and it consists in a written test with physics problems and exercises.
