
The President of the Valencian Governement, Ximo Puig, manifested this Friday, during the tribute to Manuel Broseta in the anniversary of his murder, the full university professor of Mercantile Law represented the best values of the current democratic society. The Principal of the university, Esteban Morcillo, and many university representatives form politics and society, attended the act, celebrated at the same place where Broseta died murdered by ETA terrorists.
Pablo Broseta, son of the murdered full university professor, has said that this anniversary is a moment to remember and to pay tribute, but also to defend freedom, equality, justice and dialog.
He also addressed to all the victims of terrorism. The full university professor of Criminal Law, Javier Boix, spoke to remind the academic excellence and values that Manuel Broseta transmitted inside the classrooms.
Attendants have participated in an offering of flowers at the memorial, composed by an identical column to that of the Claustre of the historical building of Cultural Centre La Nau.
Manuel Broseta Pont was born in Banyeres de Mariola in 1932 and was murdered on 15 January 1992. He completed undergraduate studies at Lluís Vives High School in Valencia, and later he studied Law at the Universitat de València, where he graduated in 1955. Broseta was actively involved in university life. He was Dean of the Faculty of Law, and was prosecuted and acquitted by the Court of Franco Public Order due to his articles in the press. He resigned as a Dean in 1972 as a protest against the attempt by the Ministry of Education to purge for political reasons more than three hundred teachers and more than one thousand Spanish university students. In 1973 he was the first signatory of the application for a Chair for Valencian Language and Culture at the Universitat de València.
Manuel Broseta obtained the Chair for Commercial Law at the Universitat de València, and practiced law. Among other positions, he was a member of the State Council. His political career began in the fight against Francoism, and chaired the Democratic Board of Valencian Country.
He later joined the Board of Politics and Trade Forces of Valencia. He was elected senator in the lists of UCD by Valencia in the elections of 1979. He abandoned active politics in 1982 and devoted himself exclusively to his professional office and his teaching career at the Universitat de València. The 1991 he became president of the Culture Council of Valencia. Among his works, Manual de Derecho Mercantil in 1971 is highlighted.
